UK coach John Calipari says freshman Archie goodwin is his point guard. Goodwin has taken over the position in the absence of Ryan Harrow who has now returned. Cal says it's all a good thing.
Goodwin has scored 50 points and dished out 13 assists in his last two games. Harrow returned to the team Sunday following an unknown illness and a personal problem that he needed to address.
With his team getting ready to play Notre Dame Thursday night, Calipari said Goodwin has earned the position of point guard. Eventually he'll have options. "Now it doesn't mean he's our only point guard, now we have three point guards, which is even better, really, than having one point guard. And you can put two on the court at one time which is even better. Against, zone, against pressing, so it's good for us. But he's learning the position and doing well and getting better game to game, so hes earned a spot.
Calipari said he may put Harrow in the game against Notre Dame to see what he can do. Harrow is just happy his team did well while he was gone. "I'm just going to be out there when it's time for me to be out there. I'm glad that he (Goodwin) did well though, you know. I text him and told him 'you won't be the only one out there once I get back, so you'll have some help and stuff like that.' Gave him encouragement I guess."
