UK may be struggling on the court a bit early this season, but coach John Calipari is continuing his torrid recruiting, as the player ranked as No 1. in the class of 2015 announced he will play college ball at the University of Kentucky Tuesday.
Karl Towns announced his decision during a press conference at St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen, N.J.
Calipari and Towns know each other well. The 7-footer played for Calipari over the summer as a member of the Dominican Republic's national team.
An excellent student, Towns said Tuesday he would reclassify for the class of 2014.
As a freshman at St. Joseph, Towns averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game. He also blocked nearly four shots per game. The big-man obviously poses an intimidating presence at the post position, but he can also hit the outside shot. He drained 63 three-pointers last season.
