Augusta broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the bottom of the third inning, and that lead stood up as the Green Jackets held on for a 2-1 win over the Lexington Legends Tuesday night.
Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a walk to Jesus Galindo, a single by Travious Relaford and a single by Matt Duffy.
The Legends evened the score in the top of the third. Terrance Gore walked, moved to second on a bunt single by Ethan Chapman and on to third when Augusta pitcher Martin Agosta threw past first after fielding Chapman’s bunt. Gore scored on a sacrifice fly by Raul Mondesi.
In the bottom of the third, Duffy tripled with one out and scored the deciding run on a single by Mitch Delfino.
Agosta (2-1) allowed one run and one hit through the first six innings. He struck out seven batters and walked four. Both of his victories this season have come against the Legends. He struck out nine batters in five innings in the GreenJackets’ 4-0 win over Lexington in the season opener April 5.
Legends’ starter Bryan Brickhouse (0-3) took the loss. He also worked six innings and allowed six hits and two runs, both earned. He walked one batter and struck out five.
Augusta has taken the first two games of the series, which concludes Wednesday. Game time is 10:35 a.m.
