Lexington police are searching for two gunmen after a driver was shot in the chest Monday night.
It happened just before 10 p.m. on Winchester and Elkhorn Road.
We're told the victim, 27-year-old Shomari Moore, drove himself to Winchester and Owens Road after being shot, where he flagged down an officer for help.
Moore was taken to UK Hospital for his injuries. He told police he was in his car when he was approached by two men and then shot in the chest. His injuries and condition are not known at this time.
"He said they flagged him down, and as soon as he rolled his window down, one of them shot him in the chest. He sped in his vehicle and when he encountered our officer, he flagged him down," said Lexington Police Lt. Eric Lowe.
Moore is a former UK football player (2005-2008). He also served as a graduate assistant for the UK men's basketball team through the 2011-2012 season.
Right now, police tell us they are working to get surveillance video from surrounding businesses.
Police tell us that they are continuing to investigate and search for these two suspects.
