Adrian Morales hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11thinning, giving the Lexington Legends a 2-1 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators Monday night.
The Legends scored their first run in the fourth inning. Terrance Gore reached second on an error by first baseman Kyle Robinson. Ethan Chapman sacrificed Gore to third, from where he scored on a double by Michael Antonio.
Kannapolis answered in the fifth. Micah Johnson walked, stole second and third, and came home on a ground out by Jason Coats. Johnson, who also stole a base in the third inning, leads the South Atlantic League with 35 steals.
The score remained 1-1 until the 11th, when Morales, playing in only his ninth game this season, came up with one out and hit his first home run of the year over the bleachers in left field.
Legends reliever Ali Williams (2-1) entered the game in the 11th and picked up the win. Bryan Brickhouse, who earlier in the day was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for May 6-12, worked the first six innings for Lexington. He allowed seven hits, one run, walked two and struck out four as he lowered his earned run average to 2.33. Cory Hall pitched three innings of no-hit, no-run relief, and Mark Peterson, who pitched the ninth and 10th innings, worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the top of the 10th the keep the score at 1-1.
Storm Throne (0-1), who relieved in the bottom of the 11th, took the loss for Kannapolis. The Intimidators’ starter, Jake Cose, pitched the first seven innings, allowed three hits, one unearned run, struck out nine batters and walked one.
The second game of the three-game series will be played Tuesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
