Lexington starter Greg Billo and relievers Aroni Nina and John Walter combined for a three-hit shutout as the Legends blanked the Kannapolis Intimidators 1-0 Tuesday night.
The Legends scored the game’s only run in the seventh inning. Cam Gallagher led off with a single, but was still at first base with two outs when Nic Cuckovich hit a ground ball toward the mound. Pitcher Strom Throne’s throw to first base hit Cuckovich and bounced down the right field line, and Gallagher came around to score the game’s only run.
Billo (1-0) worked the first six innings and earned his first win. He has not allowed an earned run in three starts for the Legends covering 15.2 innings pitched. Nina pitched an inning and one-third, and Walter got the final five outs to get his sixth save.
Lexington leads the South Atlantic League with 14 shutout victories.
The Legends maintained their two-game lead over Charleston in the South Atlantic League Southern Division standings. Charleston defeated Hickory 3-1.
The Legends conclude their three-game series in Kannapolis Wednesday. Game time is 12:05 p.m.
