Hunter Dozier drove in two runs and scored one as the Lexington Legends took a 5-1 win over the Greenville Drive Monday night.
Greenville took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a single by Jesus Loya, a sacrifice bunt by Aneury Tavarez and a single by Kendrick Perkins.
The Legends answered with two runs in the top of the fifth. Dozier led off with a double, and with one out, moved to third on a wild pitch. Dozier held at third as Fred Ford flied out to short right field, but Ramon Torres beat out an infield grounder as Dozier scored the tying run. Torres stole second, continued to third on a throwing error by catcher Jayson Hernandez, and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Greenville starter Brian Johnson.
The Legends added a run in the sixth inning. Raul Mondesi was hit by a pitch, stole second base and came home on Dozier’s two-out single.
Mark Threlkeld led off the top of the eighth with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Dozier’s second double of the game. Dozier advanced to third on Cam Gallagher’s single and scored on Ford’s sacrifice fly.
Miguel Almonte (5-8)allowed one run on six hits through the first five innings to gain the victory. Johnson (1-6) took the loss.
The Legends return home to begin a three-game series against first-place Augusta. The Legends will trail the GreenJackets by either one and one-half or two and one-half games, depending on the outcome of the second game of the doubleheader between Augusta and Savannah.
