Running back JJ Jude picked up another honor Monday afternoon as he was named The Sports Network's national FCS Co-Freshman of the Week. Jude had a record-setting performance Saturday in the Eastern Kentucky University football team's 56-24 win at Morehead State.
Jude carried the ball 33 times for an Ohio Valley Conference season-high 195 yards versus the Eagles. The redshirt freshman's four rushing touchdowns tied the EKU single-game record which was last reached by Mark Dunn against Southeast Missouri on Oct. 22, 2005.
The native of Hagerhill, Ky., averaged 5.9 yards per carry on his 33 carries, after only having 19 total carries in the first three games of the season. Jude scored the first two touchdowns of the game in the first quarter, added a second quarter 11-yard run and the final score came on a 17-yard scamper early in the fourth quarter.
The other weekly award winners were The Citadel quarterback Ben Dupree (Offensive), Gardner-Webb defensive lineman O.J. Mau (Defensive), Jacksonville kicker Dylan Lynch (Specialist) and Appalachian State running back Marcus Cox (Co-Freshman).
Eastern Kentucky (2-2) opens Ohio Valley Conference play next Saturday, Sept. 28 at defending league champion Eastern Illinois. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
