The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Basketball program is heavy into preparation for the 2013-2014 season. With numerous scrimmages on the slate for the upcoming week, the Patriots will be looking to put the preseason behind them and jump right into action in the coming weeks. On Tuesday, the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Preseason Coaches’ poll was released and the Patriots know they have work to do to make the climb to the top of the rankings.
UC was picked 5th in the MSC Preseason Coaches’ poll receiving 58 voting points from the conference coaches. No coach was allowed to vote for their own team. Georgetown College is the favorite to win the Mid-South Conference women’s basketball regular season title in 2013-14, receiving 74 voting points and five of the 10 first-place votes. Three teams were tied for 2nd in the poll including Cumberland University (3 first place votes), Campbellsville University (2 first place votes), and Shawnee State University. All three teams received 64 total voting points in the poll.
Lindsey Wilson College came in at 6th with 39 voting points while Bluefield College followed in 7th with 34 voting points. The University of Pikeville was voted 8th in the MSC with 23 voting points as St. Catharine College was voted 9th with 20 voting points. Finishing out the poll was the University of Rio Grande in 10th receiving 10 voting points.
The Patriots will begin their season on the road at the Bethel University Rotary Classic on November 1st-2nd. UC opens their home schedule on November 16th as they host St. Francis (Ill.). Tipoff is set for 2:00 pm.
